A few days ago, my friend Imani from the crew down at Haven Earth Village reached out and wanted to know if I wanted to set up at table at the 2025 Exit and Build Land Summit event which takes place at Polyface Farm over Memorial Day weekend.
I didn’t even have to think about that one – I instantly accepted. For those not aware, Polyface Farm is one of the most well-known multigenerational and regenerative farms in the nation, situated in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Joel Salatin, his family and an extended community have grown the farm and the business to an internationally known model of holistic, ecologically aligned farming. His work was one of my earliest influences and forays into regenerative, ecological farming and land design.
I was reading Joel’s books while off duty and between calls on the ambulance, working out in my head how I could apply some of his teachings to my own land and life. Many years later, those efforts are well underway as I continue to learn and refine certain approaches.
Last summer I was part of a panel of speakers at the East Tennessee Homestead Alliance festival, which Joel moderated.
Now in a few weeks I get to put eyes directly on this farm I’ve learned so much about. I’m pretty stoked about this, that’s for certain.
The Exit and Build Land Summit is focused on teaching folks all of the practical skills needed to reclaim their personal freedom and provide for more of their needs through appropriate stewardship of the land.
